JeonJu Han-Ok Village, JeonJu

(Hama Stele: The post of dismounting from a horse)

(Dongjae: This building was built for ancestral memorial services, so it is also called jaegak (a building beside tombs or the shrines to be used for ancestral memorial services) in which officials who participated in the services performed purification ceremonies, or the ritual procedure in which they purified their bodies and minds to invite the spirits before the memorial services).

(Jegigo: This was the place where all sorts of vessels and instruments for ancestral memorial services were kept.   Vessels for the services were so different from ordinary ones that they had to be kept clean and sacred. Generally, these sorts of buildings had wooden floors, which were well suited to keeping those things, as the floor was raised off the ground in order to prevent dampness.)

[Portrait of King Taejo]Taejo of Joseon (October 27, 1335 – June 18, 1408; r. 1392–1398), born Yi Seong-gye, was the founder and the first king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea.
